Mayo welcomes Life Choices group

Life Choices

Debbie Phillips, aunt of Rachel Joy Scott, one of the first victims of the Columbine shooting in Columbine, Colorado on April 20, 1999 shares Rachel’s story at the Life Choices assembly in the MHSMST Gymnasium on Monday, January 19.  Mrs. Phillips used photos and videos in her motivational presentation to encourage students to make the world a better place. Students heard first-hand accounts from Rachel’s friends and loved ones about how she tried to make people feel better about themselves.  Mrs. Phillips gave examples from Rachel’s life about how the small things she did had a significant impact on the lives of others. In Rachel’s final project, she made a copy of her hand and wrote these words:  “These hands belong to Rachel Joy Scott and will someday touch millions of people’s hearts.”

The audience broke out into applause on several occasions during the program and gave the group a standing ovation at the end.  Thank you to Mrs. Johnson for allowing the group to come and to George Atkins for all he did to make this event possible.
